Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and performer Julia Michaels has issues. Her songwriting is filled with unabashed honesty and warm vulnerability and she has been using those talents in the capacity of celebrity trainer and songwriter. Michaels has worked with multiple artists, written or co-written hits like: Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” to Hailee Steinfeld’s “Love Myself” and “Rock Bottom,” Selena Gomez’s “Hands to Myself,” Britney Spears’ “Slumber Part” and “Good For You” to Gwen Stefani’s “Used to Love You.” Now, the 23-year-old singer has teamed up with her songwriting partner Justin Tranter, to release a seven-track album of her own called, Nervous System. Audiences first properly experienced her unbridled emotional artistry on the 2016 debut single “Issues.” Certified RIAA double-platinum stateside, it crossed worldwide consumption of 5 million in less than six months and became “the best-selling song by a new artist released in 2017”—according to Nielsen Music—as well as the “highest on-demand audio streaming song by a new artist released in 2017.” As a song writer, her cumulative worldwide stream count for songs she has co-written exceeds 10 billion to date.

About the Album
Nervous System [Republic Records] is Michaels first “mini-album,” and with these seven tracks, she fortifies her emotional bond with millions of listeners everywhere. Michaels explains, “A lot of my songs have to do with the nervous system and things that are stimulated by touch and emotion,” she explains. “One day, the title just popped into my head. It made sense with how emotional the songs I’ve written are and who I am.” Produced by former Dr. Luke protege Benny Blanco, Nervous System is largely the work of Michaels’ core collaborators: co-writer Justin Tranter and producers Mattman & Robin (Carly Rae Jepsen, Tove Lo). Her vocal style is modern, and she has a way with words that will get under your skin.

In Conclusion
Nervous System continues to show the many talents of Michaels. A powerful vocalist, songwriter and now, front and center on the pop music scene as an artist leading her own music. Building on a tradition of honesty, she began while being one of pop music’s most in-demand songwriters, she continues to solidify herself as a prolific force. Nervous System is proof that she can connect with her listeners in her own way, on her own terms and in her own voice.
