Tyler Hubbard solo album Review

tyler-hubbard-cdTyler Hubbard is a country music singer whose face and name are very familiar; his voice is a frequent sound on country music radio. Hubbard has accumulated 19 No. 1 hits, with songs now woven into the fabric of country music culture. However, he’s never made a project bearing his name – telling his story – until now, with the release of his self-titled album, Tyler Hubbard. “I’m thankful for the last 10 years to be known as one half of the global superstar duo Florida Georgia Line,” Tyler says. “There’s a lot more layers to who I am. As a duo partner, you are respectful of one another’s stories and stick to common ground. I wanted to make music that let the fans into my life and who I am on a little bit deeper level.”

Tyler Hubbard is an 18-song album produced by Hubbard and Jordan Schmidt, and Tyler wrote or co-wrote all of the tracks. “It’s an exciting season,” says Tyler. “Can’t wait to be out with Keith (Urban), and I hope everybody knows these new songs. I wanted to get some more music out before I hit the road with Keith, so there was actually some songs out there that the fans can get to know, and these songs are fun, and I’m super excited about them.”

The title cut, “Dancin’ In The Country,” was co-written with Ross Copperman, Jon Nite, and Keith Urban, and the song wastyler-hubbard-1 inspired by the nearly nightly dance parties with his family. Set to a fun contemporary country beat. There is a hip-hop influence on the pre-chorus. The song form has all the elements one would expect; this song is for fun and parties, not for expressive songwriting.

Hubbard’s writing collaborations serve the album well and unquestionably come from the songwriting learned from his Florida Georgia Line experience. His ear for songs that will connect to country fans’ tastes is excellent. For example, “I’m The Only One.” Yes, the form is predictable, but the interesting rhythm between the chorus and the relatable, positive storytelling lyrics are pure gold.

tyler-hubbard-2Tyler Hubbard contains a hefty eighteen songs for country music fans to sample. There are many styles, from country ballads to electro-pop country sounds, but each piece has excellent lyrics and catchy melodies and hooks. The result is there is something for everyone here.
