Wunderhorse-cdWunderhorse is a rising name in the hard rock scene known for its energetic performances and raw sound. Formed in the early 2020s, the band quickly gained attention with its debut album, which was praised for its innovative fusion of classic rock influences with modern sensibilities. Midas is Wunderhorse’s highly anticipated sophomore album, exploring transformation, struggle, and triumph themes. This album marks a pivotal moment for the band as they unify their hard rock sound with hues from their last album and a more focused contemporary edge.

The inspiration for Midas stems from the band’s experiences on the road and personal challenges faced over the past few years. The lead singer, Jacob Slater, mentioned in interviews how the album reflects their journey through adversity and the drive to turn difficulties into golden opportunities, much like the mythological King Midas.

The key musicians on the album include Jacob Slater on vocals,  Harry Tristan Fowler on guitar, Pete Woodin on bass and Jamie Staples on drums. Each member’s contribution enhances the album’s dynamic range, with guest appearances adding further depth and texture.

Midas blends various musical styles, incorporating punk, grunge, and classic rock elements. Tracks like “Midas” exhibit a powerful synthesis of gritty guitar riffs and melodic hooks, while “Rain” offers a more moody and melodic-driven sound. This versatility showcases the band’s songwriting and textural focus for the new release.

The rebellious spirit of punk rock to the introspective nature of 90s grunge. The track “Silver” nods to the anarchic energy of early punk, while “July” incorporates elements of 90’s grunge melodies and guitar sounds, creating a unique dialogue within the album.

The opening track, “Midas,” sets an assertive tone with its driving rhythms, while “Silver” provides a softer, more contemplative break in the energy. The narrative arc progresses from themes of struggle and hardship to those of redemption and triumph, with standout tracks like “Rain” encapsulating this journey.
